Casey's golfing maxims and quips

These maxims and one-liners are for both men and women.

During play, never:
  • Give anyone a golf lesson;
  • Argue the rules;
  • Spit, smoke or curse;
  • Use a cell phone, unless it's an emergency;
  • Brag about a shot or a putt;
  • Take yourself seriously.
  • Take rollovers, Mulligans or gimmes.
During play, always:
  • After praise, say "thanks"--nothing more, nothing less.
  • Apologize after hitting into someone.
Remember to:
  • Practice, practice, practice;
  • Complete your back swing, keep your eye on the ball, and follow through;
  • Think: timing, tempo and rhythm.
  • You can't teach an old ball new tricks.
  • The woods are full of long hitters.
  • Always concede the fourth putt.
  • "You can talk to a fade, but a hook won't listen," (LT).
  • Never up, never in.
  • "USA," You're still away. Or "it's still your turn."
  • It was an all around good putt. (After a 360-holed putt).
  • On the lip, the next a yip.
