"Sank's-giving" comes early

Husky Stadium. Limited to just 22 yards rushing last week against the Tempe Beelzebubs, Bishop Sankey ran for a career high 241 yards, scoring  two touchdowns, as the Montlake Dawgs beat the Berzerkely Bears, 41-17, before 66,328 fans on Saturday night.

It’s a start,” Sankey was quoted as saying, in reference to the Huskies blowout loss loss at Arizona State, 53-24. “After going down to Tempe we lost a little respect. We bounced back.”

'We did this one for Coach James, who built this program for us,” middle linebacker and co-captain John Timu was quoted as saying.

Legendary coach Don James passed away from pancreatic cancer last Sunday.

"James’ wife of 61 years Carol, their three grown children and 10 grandchildren were at midfield as honorary captains for the pregame coin toss. Sarkisian spoke to Carol on the field just before that. Then, after the halftime tribute, hundreds of James’ former players jogged out of the tunnel and formed a cordon for the current Huskies to run through while coming out for the second half," writes Greg Bell at gohuskies.com. -- Before  tonight, the Huskies had lost three games in a row, but were underdogs in each of  them.

-- UW QB Keith Price passed for the ninth most yards in a game in Husky history with 376.

-- The Dawgs had 262 yards rushing on 44 carries, while limiting Cal to 131 yards.

-- Jaydon Mickens led all receivers with 180 yards and two  touchdowns. One of the TDs came on a 68-yarder from Price.

-- The UW defense recorded 5 sacks for 18 yards.

-- UW outgained Cal 642 yards to 483.

The home game against Colorado in two weeks looks winnable, while the Huskies (5-3, 2-3 Pac-12), most likely, will lose to UCLA and OSU on the road. Played in Husky Stadium, the Apple Cup is up for grabs.

The QB efficiency ratings on the game follow:

QB School PA C YDS I TD Eff. Rate
Keith Price UW 32 20 376 0 2 181.32
Cyler Miles UW 2 1 4 0 0 66.8
Jared Goff UCB 54 32 336 0 1 117.64
Austin Hinder UCB 4 1 16 0 0 58.6
Jackson Bouza UCB 1 1 0 0 0 100.0

UW dominated the offensive line of scrimmage, 460.06 to 318.8, i.e.,

OLE = PEO + YPC * X - OLPY

UW Oline efficiency = 175.06 + 6*50 - 15 = 460.06

UCB Oline efficiency = 113.38 + 4.5*50 - 20 = 318.8

(*) The normalizing number X=50 was chosen so that 2.0 yards per carry would be equivalent to a Passing Efficiency Rating of 100.

PEO = pass-efficiency offense; YPC = yards per carry; x = normalizing number; OLPY = offensive line penalty yards
