Dawgs "Boulder" than Buffs

Husky Stadium. Their offense scoring 6 touchdowns, with their defense adding 2, the Washington Huskies overpowered the Colorado Golden Buffaloes 59-7 before 66,599 fans on a misty Saturday night in Seattle.

Add Travis Coons' first quarter field goal to the mix and the Dawgs were never headed. The Huskies led 31-7 at half time and the "Bouldering" was on --  you know, like being run over by a bolder, only in Seattle not Colorado. A bad pun, indeed.

I listened to the game at an overnight stop in Santa Maria on our way home, which is near Winchester and Temecula. Just as Husky radio announcer Bob Rondeau said -- somewhere in the third quarter -- that fans were leaving the stadium, I fell asleep on the game. My wife woke me up several times reminding me I had a story to write. As a consequence of my somnolence refer to Adam Jude's blog in the Seattle Times.

Most likely over the next two weeks, the Huskies (6-3, 3-3 Pac-12), will lose to UCLA and OSU on the road. Played in Husky Stadium, the Apple Cup is up for grabs.

The Huskies haven't beaten UCLA in Pasadena since Jim Lambright's crew beat them 38-14 in 1995. Dawgs that play dead in Pasadena seldom beat the Bruins.

The QB efficiency ratings on the game follow:

QB School PA C YDS I TD Eff. Rate
Keith Price UW 29 22 312 0 2 188.99
Sefo Liufau Col 22 12 160 2 1 112.45
Conner Wood Col 3 2 11 0 0 97.47

UW dominated the offensive line of scrimmage, 468.99 to 281.66, i.e.,

OLE = PEO + YPC * X - OLPY

UW Oline efficiency = 188.99 + 6.2*50 - 30 = 468.99

Col Oline efficiency = 110.66 + 3.5*50 - 4 = 281.66

(*) The normalizing number X=50 was chosen so that 2.0 yards per carry would be equivalent to a Passing Efficiency Rating of 100.

PEO = pass-efficiency offense; YPC = yards per carry; x = normalizing number; OLPY = offensive line penalty yards
